Jumping attack with a hit impact.
I tried to tell about this semi-stylized world as a dangerous place where the player can meet a worthy enemy.
I wanted to play up this forest theme. I also added a bit of my sense of humor here - mushrooms. All the colors and elements had to make sense and be relatable. Although this is not a realistic scene, I wanted to give it a realistic feel and a high quality of detail. I paid a lot of attention to shape, form, texture, value, and colors.
This project is done in Unreal Engine, which is my main tool for creating effects. I used the Niagara system.
I created:
- animated dissolve materials on top of existing materials;
- mesh and a material for refraction effect;
- materials that provide dark colors for textures;
- some noise textures in Substance Designer.
The animations I used are from Mixamo, but I had to set the correct timings for them and change the attack animation. I increased the speed in some parts and decreased in others to provide a better sense of impact, which is more in line with the principles of animation.
Also a lot of attention was paid to lighting and render settings as I was rendering using sequencer.
